Purpose of endodontic care
Root-canal treatment removes inflamed or necrotic pulp, disinfects the canal system and preserves a tooth that can still be restored.
Diagnosis and pathway
Symptoms, clinical tests and X-rays guide the diagnosis. Treatment commonly includes anesthesia, access, cleaning and shaping, canal filling and final tooth restoration.
- Spontaneous or lingering pain
- Unusual hot/cold sensitivity
- Swelling, abscess or apical disease
- Trauma or extensive decay
After treatment
Short-term tenderness can occur. A well-sealed restoration and timely reviews help prevent reinfection and fracture.
